Peter Heiter (born May 25, 1943 in Görlitz ) was Lord Mayor of Nordhausen am Harz from 1985 to 1990 .

Life

Peter Heiter's father was a businessman and came from Nordhausen. After fleeing the Red Army , the family came to Wansleben am See in 1945 and moved to Nordhausen in 1956. Peter Heiter trained as a construction machine operator.

In 1963 he joined the SED . After three years with the NVA, Heiter worked in the organizational department of the district council from 1966 . In 1971 he became the personal assistant to the chairman of the council and from 1982 to 1985 he was head of the economic policy department of the SED district leadership .

On April 1, 1985, the city ​​council appointed Peter Heiter as mayor and successor to Herbert Otto. After the fall of the wall , he took part in the round table and was co-initiator of the weekly newspaper "Nordhäuser Kurier". On January 17, 1990, Peter Heiter was released from his position as mayor at his own request. He said he would take personal responsibility for wrong decisions in the community. Olaf Dittmann ( NDPD ) continued his official business until the local election. In the same year Heiter was appointed head of the building department of the district office and worked here until 1992. In 1993, Heiter started his own business as a finance and insurance broker , became managing director of a construction company and most recently worked as head of an asylum seeker home . In 2007 he retired.

Peter Heiter has been married since 1964 and has a daughter and a son.
