Barbara Rinke (* January 8, 1947 as Barbara Rulf in Nordhausen ) is a German local politician ( SPD ) and was Lord Mayor of the city of Nordhausen am Harz from 1994 to 2012 . From 2003 to 2009 she was President of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and as such a member of the EKD Council .

Career

Barbara Rinke attended school in Nordhausen and studied advertising economics as a commercial applicant after graduating as a skilled worker. After completing her studies in 1972, she began working as an advertising economist. From 1972 to 1974 she was the operations manager of the parental, semi-public company and, after the reprivatisation in 1990, she was managing director for another four years.

Early on in her voluntary work for the Protestant Church, she was elected to the regional synod and was a member of the church leadership for 15 years. After reunification, she joined the SPD.

Barbara Rinke was Lord Mayor of Nordhausen from 1994 to 2012 . In October 2002, Rinke was in talks to form the Schröder II government cabinet as Federal Family Minister . However, she declined the offer.

Barbara Rinke has long been a member of the Presidium of the German Evangelical Church Congress and was its President from 1997 to 1999. In the 8th and 9th synods of the EKD (the first all-German) Barbara Rinke was deputy president. In the 10th Synod (2003-2009), she was a successor Jürgen Schmudes Präses . She was followed by Katrin Göring-Eckardt in 2009 .

Barbara Rinke is married and has four daughters.
