Peter Helmling

Peter Helmling (born September 9, 1817 in Erbach (Heppenheim) , Hesse , † April 11, 1901 in Reval ) was a German mathematician . He worked from 1854 to 1870 as a professor for pure mathematics at the Imperial University of Dorpat .

Helmling studied in Heidelberg (1837) and was then tutor in Courland . In 1844 he passed his tutor exam at the grammar school in Mitau and in 1846 his senior teacher exam in mathematics in Dorpat . In 1850 he received his doctorate in Heidelberg (Dr. phil.) And received his master's degree in Dorpat in 1851. Then he was from 1854 private lecturer, from 1859 associate professor and after a renewed doctorate in 1859 (Dr. math.) Full professor in Dorpat. From 1867 to 1870 he was Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and from 1870 to 1873 Vice Rector. In 1887 he retired. He taught at the same time from 1855 to 1890 at the veterinary school and the veterinary institute in Dorpat.

He dealt with analysis (differential equations).
