Peter Henkenborg

Peter Henkenborg (born October 6, 1955 in Cloppenburg ; † August 22, 2015 in Gießen ) was a German political scientist and professor of didactics in political education .

Live and act

Peter Henkenborg studied politics and history teacher for secondary schools and completed in the years 1982-1984 clerkship . From 1986–1999 he worked as a research assistant and teacher at the Institute for Didactics of Social Sciences at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . He is writing his dissertation under the title “The Inevitability of Morals. About the contribution of ethics to political education in the risk society ”. It was published in 1992 by Wochenschau Verlag . 1995–1998 he took on substitute professorships at the Universities of Kassel University , at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and at the TU Dresden . From 1999 to 2006 he worked as a professor for didactics of political education / social studies at the TU Dresden and was most recently professor for didactics of political education at the Philipps University of Marburg from October 1, 2006 until his death . His work includes contributions to the didactics of political education, in particular the socio-theoretical foundation of political education and empirical teaching research. He was married and the father of two children and, according to his own statement, a "practicing fan and member of 1. FC Köln ".

Participation in professional associations and editorial activities

Peter Henkenborg was involved in professional and professional associations for political education. He was a founding member of the Society for Political Didactics and Political Youth and Adult Education (GPJE) and from 1999 to 2002 a member of the speakers' group. From 2000 to 2003 he was a member of the federal board of the German Association for Civic Education (DVPB) and from 2000 to 2006 he was regional chairman of the German Association for Civic Education, Saxony.

In addition, he participated in specialist journals. 1998 to 2002 he was editor of the magazine "DVPB aktuell" of the German Association for Political Education (now Polis); 2002/2003 senior editor of Polis magazine. From 2001 to 2005 he was co-editor of the magazine "sowi-onlinejournal - magazine for social sciences and their didactics". He was also a member of the editorial board of the magazine "Kursiv - Journal für Politische Bildung" (now: Journal for Political Education). After all, since 2003 he has been co-editor of “Journal of Social Science Education - Journal for Social Sciences and Their Didactics”.
