Peter Heusser (born August 29, 1950 in Brienz , Switzerland) is a specialist in general medicine (FMH) and holds the senior professorship for medical anthropology at the University of Witten / Herdecke . From 2009 to 2016 he held the Gerhard Kienle Chair for Medical Theory, Integrative and Anthroposophic Medicine there. His research focuses on the effectiveness of anthroposophic and integrative therapy methods, the evaluation of anthroposophic medical training concepts, medical anthropology , as well as the epistemological , conceptual and historical principles of anthroposophic medicine .

Born in Brienz on August 29, 1950, attended school in the cantons of Bern and Solothurn as well as in the USA, studied medicine in Bern, advanced training to become a specialist in general medicine and certificate of proficiency in anthroposophic medicine , doctorate at the University of Basel under Ignaz Paul Vital Troxler , Master of Medical Education at the University of Bern. Medical activity at the Ita Wegman Clinic and the Lukas Clinic in Arlesheim as well as at the University Medical Center Bern. 1995–2008 lecturer in anthroposophic medicine at the Institute for Complementary Medicine (IKOM) of the medical faculty of the University of Bern and since 2009 holder of the chair for medical theory , integrative and anthroposophic medicine , head of the center for integrative medicine at the University of Witten / Herdecke and head of research - and teaching center (FLZ) at the Herdecke community hospital .

Peter Heusser gave essential impulses for the scientific-theoretical justification and a contemporary conceptual understanding of anthroposophic medicine. As the first lecturer in anthroposophic medicine, he and colleagues established a department for experimental and clinical homeopathic and anthroposophic medical research at the University of Bern and was co-director of a study by the Swiss National Fund for Scientific Research on the quality of life in patients with incurable cancer. He also helped to develop criteria for assessing the benefits of complementary medicine methods for the Swiss Federal Social Insurance Office as a member of the national steering committee of the Swiss-wide program Evaluation of Complementary Medicine PEK at the Federal Office of Public Health . Expert in anthroposophic medicine in the Swissmedic Medicines Expert Committee of the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products.

At the University of Witten / Herdecke, he played a key role in the conception of the research focus on integrative and personalized health care (IPGV) of the Faculty of Health. Together with his employees, he is currently setting up the research and teaching center at the Herdecke Community Hospital (FLZ), a supporting institution for the Center for Clinical Studies at the University of Witten / Herdecke (ZKS-UWH). He is also involved in the development and evaluation of new integrative training formats for medical training. Peter Heusser continues to cooperate scientifically with the University of Bern and with other research institutions.
