Peter Howson

Peter Howson (born March 27, 1958 in London ) is a Scottish painter .

Life

He grew up in Prestwick , South Ayrshire . After a short military service, he studied from 1979 at the School of Art in Glasgow with John Bellany , whose master class he also became. Together with Ken Currie and others, he re- founded the Glasgow Boys painter group , which had emerged at the end of the 19th century and had a major influence on modern painting at the time.

During the Bosnian War he was an official British war painter . During the war in Kosovo he was a war painter for the London Times . In addition to the horrors of war, his pictures often show religious motifs.

His pictures are popular with many celebrities, including Madonna , David Bowie , Bob Geldof and Sylvester Stallone . His picture "The Sisters of Mercy" is featured on the cover of the album "Throwing Copper" by the rock group Live .

Peter Howson lives and works in Glasgow.

Honors

In September 2014, Howson hinted that he would return his honor to OBE, largely because he criticized Britain's foreign policy. But it's not clear if he actually implemented it.
