Peter Jäggi

Peter Jäggi (born November 29, 1909 in Olten ; † May 27, 1975 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) was a Swiss legal scholar with a focus on corporate law .

Live and act

Jäggi visited the St. Fidelis College in Stans . He then studied law at the Universities of Freiburg , Bern and Berlin . In 1934 he received his doctorate under Ulrich Lampert at the University of Freiburg. Jäggi worked for several years in the Department of the Interior of the Canton of Solothurn and from 1942 as a clerk at the Federal Supreme Court . In 1945 he was appointed as the successor to Franz Jenny as associate professor and in 1948 as full professor for Swiss private law at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Freiburg. From 1955 until his death in 1975 he held the chair for civil and commercial law. The latter was then taken over by his student Peter Gauch .

Peter Jäggi was one of the most important Swiss lawyers of his time. He has published publications on almost all areas of private law, but above all on corporate law.

Since his student days he was a member of the student fraternity AV Fryburgia in the Swiss student association , which he presided over in 1932/33. From 1957 to 1963 he was President of the Old Masters Association. From 1961 to 1964 Jäggi presided over the Swiss Lawyers Association.
