Fonzie is a Portuguese band that plays pop-punk and alternative rock . Occasionally it is also referred to as Fonzie Time .

history

Hugo Maia, João Marques and David Marques founded the band in Lisbon in 1996 under the name Fonzie, influenced by the wave of melodycore bands at the time, especially from California and Sweden . They recorded their first 4-song demo ( Bring me up ) in 1997.

From the beginning they pushed the professionalization of the band, which was reflected for example in more elaborate productions. Her second album ( Built to rock ) was recorded in the Swedish studio Underground and mastered in the American West West Side Music studio . They also advanced their internationalization live and went on several world tours that took them through Asia, Latin America, North America, Australia and Europe. They are regular guests at festivals to this day, and have so far played at events such as the Rock in Rio , the Deconstruction Tour , the Fuji Rock Festival , the Super Bock Super Rock or the Pukkelpop .

In 2003 her play Gotta Get Away was featured on the MTV television series Laguna Beach , and again on MTV Made television programs .

They were featured on the fifth soundtrack CD of the hit TV series Morangos com Açucar , and were nominated for best Portuguese act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2003 and again in 2007 .

In 2010 their fifth album Caminho ("Weg") was released, on which they sang consistently Portuguese for the first time , which they had only done on one track on their 1998 debut album.

Her reorientation towards Portuguese singing was also reflected in her piece Portugal (a selecção de todos nós) (a selecção de todos nós) (English: "Portugal (the selection of us all)"), published for the 2012 European Football Championship , in support of the Portuguese national team , in its official video clip u. a. the Homens da Luta had two guest appearances, Portugal's representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf.
