Peter Joseph De Muth (born January 1, 1892 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , †  April 3, 1993 in Orange County , California ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1939 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Peter De Muth attended public schools in his home country and then the Carnegie Institute of Technology , also in Pittsburgh. Between 1914 and 1918 he worked as a civil engineer. During the final phase of World War I , he joined the United States Navy on July 15, 1918 , where he served as a machinist. After the war he returned to Pittsburgh, where he worked as a sales manager between 1919 and 1922. He then worked in the real estate industry and as a building contractor. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1936 congressional elections , De Muth was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 30th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded J. Twing Brooks on January 3, 1937 . Since he was not confirmed in 1938, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1939 . During this time, other New Deal laws were passed by the Roosevelt government.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, De Muth returned to the Pittsburgh real estate and construction business. In 1949 he moved to Los Angeles , California, where he also worked in these industries. He later lived in Laguna Hills . He died on April 3, 1993 at the age of 101.
