Peter Karns (born October 24, 1945 in Jackson Hole , Wyoming ) is a former American biathlete .

Karns competed for the US biathlon team since 1966. At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , he was able to fight for 14th place in the individual race and 6th place in the relay. In addition, he took part in five world championships between 1969 and 1971 and 1973 and 1974 . In 1973 and 1974 Karns was also American champion. Between 1973 and 1976 he was responsible for the biathlon team as a trainer.

Karns graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in business administration . He later earned an MBA from Montana State University . After finishing his coaching career, Karns moved back to Jackson Hole, where he works as a real estate agent. In 2010 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the US Biathlon .
