from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Krüger (* 1924 in Freiberg ; † July 12, 2007 in Munich ) was a German entrepreneur . He was best known in public as the founder of the Dr. Erich Krüger Foundation. The foundation, created in 2006, is the largest private donation to a university in Germany.

Life

Peter Krüger attended school in Freiberg (Saxony) and passed his Abitur there. He first began an apprenticeship at the Electrotechnical Institute of the Bergakademie Freiberg and enrolled in mining as a student in 1946. He was forcibly de-registered after one semester because his parents belonged to the educated middle class and he was not a worker-peasant child. He then went to Karlsruhe and studied electrical engineering there.

He then emigrated to Canada. There he initially worked as a television antenna fitter and cockpit fitter, later as an electrical engineer in a transformer factory. After three years he returned to Germany and took over a building protection company in Essen. He developed the company into a leading global company with more than 2000 employees. In 1971 he sold the company for a profit.

In 1974 he and his wife founded the company "Schlemmermeyer", which specialized in sausage and ham and whose headquarters were in Munich. The Krüger couple gradually expanded the company until it became a chain with 35 branches in all major cities. The innovative concept for the time consisted in the fact that the stores were only present in the very best locations in the big cities. After selling this company, the Krüger couple turned to the real estate business.
