Peter Kuhn (engineer)

Peter Kuhn (born September 14, 1932 in Heidelberg ; † November 15, 2011 in Weinheim ) was a German engineer .

Career

Peter Kuhn was the son of the chemist Richard Kuhn and his wife Daisy, nee Hartmann. After attending school, he graduated from high school in Heidelberg in 1952. He studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt , graduating in 1958 with a diploma. He then worked for more than three years as an assistant at the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines and Aircraft Engines at the Technical University of Darmstadt. On January 1, 1962, he became a development engineer at the Schaeffler industrial plant in Herzogenaurach. Later, after intermediate positions at the University of Saarbrücken and at INA Industriewerke Schaeffler, Peter Kuhn became professor for machine design at the TH Karlsruhe and head of the Institute for Product Development Karlsruhe .

Together with motorcycle athlete Helmut Fath , Kuhn developed the four-cylinder in - line engine under the acronym URS (Fath-URS). Helmut Fath became world champion in 1968 together with Wolfgang Kalauch on URS and in 1969 vice world champion on URS with Wolfgang Kalauch and Billie Nelson. The URS-Motor celebrated further successes with the Münch -URS.
