Peter Kummer (builder)

Peter Kummer († after 1610) was a German builder and Saxon court mason.

Peter Kummer the Elder, his brother Martin Kummer the Younger, was also a master builder († 1594 in Berlin) and had been in the service of the Elector of Saxony since 1562. In 1572 he took the citizenship oath in Dresden . In 1577, Elector August von Sachsen appointed him master mason in Dresden, and in 1586 and 1592, respectively, he was confirmed in his office by his successors Christian I and Christian II . His works included the reconstruction of the castles Seyda and Prettin (1573–1574), Moritzburg (1582–1584) under Paul Buchner , Colditz (1582–1586), Gommern Castle (1579), the Augusteum in Wittenberg (1580–1582) as well as work on the castles of Augustusburg (1583) and Dresden (1591). In Berlin in 1585 he was called in by Lynar to build the castle pharmacy and made the designs for it in Dresden.

His son, Peter Kummer the Younger, was sworn in as a citizen of Dresden in 1608 and hired as master mason in 1627. His work included the renovation of the Princely House (1609/1610).
