Life

After graduating from high school in 1988, Langer studied chemistry at the University of Hanover from 1989–1993, where he graduated as a chemist. This was followed by doctoral studies from 1994–1997; his dissertation was entitled “Regio- and diastereoselective synthesis of nitrogen-containing natural product fragments, supramolecular heterocyclic structures and china alkaloids.” From 1997–1998, Langer went to the University of Cambridge ( England ) as a postdoctoral fellow . From 1998–2001 he was a habilitation candidate at the Institute for Organic Chemistry at the University of Göttingen . Langer completed his habilitation on “The mammalian herbivore stomach: comparative anatomy, function, and evolution.” (2001). After a position as a substitute for a chair at the University of Greifswald in 2001, Langer was professor for bio-organic chemistry in Greifswald from 2002-2004. Since 2004, Langer has been Professor of Preparative Organic Chemistry at the University of Rostock and Head of Division at the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT).
