Life

Peter Lichtenthal received his doctorate in medicine in Vienna in 1808 and also studied music there. In 1810 he moved to Milan for health reasons and worked as a censor. Now he called himself Pietro. He was friends with Carl Thomas Mozart , a son of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . Carl (Karl) Thomas Mozart also lived in Milan.

Lichtenthal was also known to Niccolò Paganini . Paganini dictated his autobiographical sketch to him in 1828.

Lichtenthal campaigned for the works of WA Mozart in Milan; he made edits

The arrangement of the Requiem has recently been performed by several string quartet ensembles (around 2010). Lichtenthal's numerous own compositions (some are dedicated to WA Mozart or Carl Th. Mozart) have largely been forgotten.

Lichtenthal became better known through his writing. He wrote

  • a book about the possible healing effects of music and thus made a contribution to music therapy ; he continued to write
  • a short biography of WA Mozart and
  • a music lexicon that is considered a pioneering achievement. It has been translated (and supplemented) into French. Lichtenthal's versatility shows in the fact that he too
  • wrote a travel guide for Italy.
