Life

After studying economics, Peter Lindenthal worked as a development worker in Latin America , the Caribbean and Africa .

The Karelian Bear Dog (a Nordic breed from Finland ) Ajiz accompanied his master on all his wanderings through the European continent and appears in all six books by Lindenthal. Ajiz died in 2004, at the age of 14. Peter Lindenthal's funeral pilgrimage on the Way of St. James from the English Channel to the Pyrenees is described in his last book “Santiago also had a dog”.

Ajiz (pronounced: Ajiz like Achiss) is a word from the Maya language Quiché and means something like magician. Lindenthal gave him the name, according to his own statement, because he had spent a year in the Indian highlands of Guatemala in 1968/69 and had formed a deep friendship with a shepherd mix named Ajiz during that time.
