Peter Mayer (District Administrator)

Peter Mayer (* 1885 in Nagyszentmiklós , Hungary; † after 1950) was a German administrative officer.

Career

After attending the elementary and community school in Nagyszentmiklós, he trained as a typesetter. He then did military service as an infantryman in the Austro-Hungarian Army . In 1910 he came to Freiburg im Breisgau. There he was involved in popular education and was a member of the Reich leadership of the student courses for workers. During the First World War he was used as a soldier on the front lines in Russia and Italy.

After the end of the war, he co-founded the community college in Freiburg in 1919. In 1921 he acquired German citizenship and began studying law and camera science at the University of Freiburg , which he completed in 1924. From 1924 he worked as the secretary of the SPD in the Baden Oberland and was elected to the Freiburg city council in 1925. After the National Socialists came to power, he emigrated to France in 1933. After the German occupation of the country, he was arrested by the Gestapo . After the end of the war he returned to Germany.

After Karl Ludwig Schecher's resignation , Mayer was temporarily entrusted with his official business on July 1, 1947, as the district administrator of the Kehl district . With effect from October 1, 1949, he was officially a district administrator. He retired in 1951.
