Peter W. Michor

Peter Wolfram Michor (born May 20, 1949 in Villach ) is an Austrian mathematician .

Michor studied mathematics at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1973 with Johann Cigler on the subject of "Functors on categories of Banach spaces". He is the author of over 130 scientific publications. From 1992 to 2003 he was director of the Erwin Schrödinger Institute for Mathematical Physics , from 1995 to 1998 secretary of the European Mathematical Society , and chairman of the Committee on electronic information and communication (CEIC) of the International Mathematical Union . Michor is an associate professor at the University of Vienna, retired in 2010. Michor's research focuses on differential geometry , diffeomorphism groups and shape spaces.
