Peter Norton

Peter Norton (born November 14, 1943 in Aberdeen , Washington ) is an American software developer and entrepreneur. Peter Norton became known for the development of utility programs for the command line-oriented operating system DOS in the 1980s:

In 1985 Norton wrote the standard work Advanced MS-DOS Programming at Microsoft Press , which, along with Andrew Schulman's book Undocumented DOS, is one of the classics in this field. Also very popular was Peter Norton's assembly book , which was published as a German translation in 1988.

Norton's company, Peter Norton Computing , was acquired by Symantec in 1990 . From the proceeds generated from this, he and his wife Eileen Harris-Norton founded the Norton Family Foundation .

The asteroid (4115) Peternorton , discovered in 1982, was named after him.
