Peter Ptassek (born November 1, 1961 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German diplomat . He has been ambassador to Colombia since 2018 .

career

After graduating from high school , Peter Ptassek studied philosophy , German and literature and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1993.

In 1993 Peter Ptassek joined the Foreign Service . His first assignments led him to work as an exchange officer at the French Foreign Ministry in Paris and in the foreign department of the Federal President's Office in Bonn . From 1997 to 2000 he worked at the embassy in Moscow , then until 2002 in the European department of the Foreign Office and from 2002 to 2004 in the advisory staff of the EU Commission President Romano Prodi in Brussels .

From 2006 he worked as deputy head of EU finance in the European department of the Federal Foreign Office, moved to Afghanistan as civilian head of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in 2008 and became head of the EU finance, agricultural policy and economic affairs department in 2009.
