Peter Radford

Peter Frank Radford (born September 20, 1939 in Walsall ) is a former British sprinter . Although he had to spend a long time in a wheelchair as a child with a kidney problem, he had a successful dual career.

At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, he won the bronze medal over 100 meters behind the German Armin Hary (gold) and the American Dave Sime (silver) as well as the team bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay together with his teammates David Jones , David Segal and Nick Whitehead , behind the teams from Germany (gold) and the Soviet Union (silver).

Further successes were the bronze medal in the 100-meter run and the bronze medal in the 4-by-100-meter relay at the European Championships in Stockholm in 1958 as well as the gold medal in the 4 × 110-yard relay at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games 1958 in Cardiff and 1962 in Perth .

Sports official and sports scientist

After 1965 Radford lived and worked in Canada and the United States for twelve years. On his return he became the founding director of the Sports Institute at Glasgow University and Honorary President of the UK Athletics Federation (UKA). From 1993 on he became full-time president and later professor of sports science at Brunel University in London.
