Peter Riedlberger

Peter Riedlberger (* 1973 in Aichach ) is a German scholar of antiquity .

From 1992 to 1997, Riedlberger studied Ancient History with the minor subjects Classical Philology and Classical Archeology in Munich , Freiburg i. Br. And Paris X Nanterre .

In 2009 the doctorate to Dr. phil. in Latin Philology at the University of Kiel . The PhD thesis on Philological, Historical and Liturgical Commentary on the 8th Book of Johannis des Goripp along with the critical edition and translation was awarded the Faculty Prize of the Schleswig-Holstein University Society and was published in 2010.

From 2010 to 2011 Riedlberger worked as a Thyssen Fellow at the Chair for History of Natural Sciences at the University of Munich and at the Warburg Institute in London, and from 2011 to 2012 he was a Minerva Fellow at the Department of History at Tel Aviv University . In 2012, Riedlberger received his doctorate in the history of natural sciences through the late antique mathematician Domninos von Larisa in Munich. This was followed by a doctorate in law at the University of Tübingen in 2019 with a topic on late Roman legal history . All three dissertations were published in respected series.

From 2010 to 2015, Riedlberger held teaching positions at the University of Augsburg and from April to September 2014 worked as an academic assistant at the Law Faculty of the University of Tübingen . From 2015 he conducted research at the Trimberg Research Academy at the University of Bamberg , and in the same year he received a Starting Grant from the European Research Council for his project The Proceedings of the Ecumenical Councils from Oral Utterance to Manuscript Edition as Evidence for Late Antique Persuasion and Self-Representation Techniques , which he has been carrying out as a research group leader at the University of Bamberg since 2016. He is a member of Mensa in Germany .

Riedlberger's research focuses on literature and culture from late antiquity . It is particularly characterized by an interdisciplinary approach that combines philological with historical and legal-historical issues.

Riedlberger also worked as a translator and freelance IT journalist in the print and online sectors. His translation works include the two-volume complete presentation of Rome and the Empire in the High Empire by the French ancient historians François Jacques (1946–1992) and John Scheid (Volume 1, German 1998) and Claude Lepelley (1934–2015) (Volume 2, German 2001) , which is a structural representation of the history of the Roman Empire between 44 BC.
