Peter Samuel, 4th Viscount Bearsted

Major Peter Montefiore Samuel, 4th Viscount Bearsted MC TD ( December 9, 1911 - June 9, 1996 ) was a British peer and businessman.

Live and act

Peter Samuel went to Eton College in Berkshire and New College in Oxford . He began his military service with the Warwickshire Yeomanry in March 1936 , where he last served as an acting major during World War II and was awarded the Military Cross in 1943 .

He worked for Shell Transport and Trading from 1938 to 1982 , among other things as its Deputy Chairman . From 1946 to 1996 he was director of the Mayborn Group plc , from 1965 to 1982 also deputy chairman of the Hill Samuel Group and until 1987 one of its directors. He inherited the 1986 title from his older brother and became a member of the House of Lords .

Peter Samuel was the son of Walter Horace Samuel, 2nd Viscount Bearsted and Dorothy Montefiore Micholls. His first marriage was on October 11, 1939, Deirdre du Barry du Lavey, daughter of Thomas Franklin Marshall du Lavey, from whom he divorced in 1942. His second marriage was on March 20, 1946, the Hon. Elizabeth Adelaide Cohen, daughter of Lionel Leonard Cohen, Baron Cohen and Adelaide Spielmann. In 1984 he married Nina Alice Hilary Hearn, a daughter of Reginald John Hearn.
