Peter Schiffauer

Peter Schiffauer (born October 25, 1948 in Schweinfurt ) is a German lawyer.

Professional background

After attending elementary school and grammar school in Schweinfurt, he studied law, economics and philosophy in Würzburg , Tübingen and Munich from 1967 to 1978 , from which he graduated in 1973 with the first state examination in law. In 1975 the second state examination followed and in 1978 the doctorate to Doctor Juris at the University of Munich.

From 1977 to 1978 Schiffauer completed a research degree at the European University Institute in Florence and worked as a consultant in the European law department of the German Ministry of Economic Affairs in Bonn from 1978/79 . He then worked as a legal translator at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg from 1980–1981 . 1981–1992 he was a member of the board of directors, from 1993 he was the main board member at the European Parliament and in the Secretariat of the Transport Committee, from 1998 in the Secretariat of the Institutional Committee and in the Directorate-General for Studies in Luxembourg. From 1999 to 2004, Schiffauer was Head of Department and Head of the Secretariat of the Legal Affairs Committee and from 2004 to 2014 he was Head of Unit and Head of the Secretariat of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs at the European Parliament in Brussels .

Since 1995 Schiffauer has worked at the Distance University in Hagen in the Institute for Political Party Law (until 2002) and in the Institute for European Constitutional Studies (since 2003) and as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law. Since 2006 he has been an honorary professor at the Law Faculty of the Distance University in Hagen and a board member (since 2017 Deputy Chairman) of the Dimitris Tsatsos Institute for European Constitutional Studies .

Schiffauer is married and has lived in Wroclaw since 2014 .
