Peter Sollett (born February 9, 1976 in Bensonhurst , Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American film director and screenwriter .

life and career

Sollett grew up in an Italian-Jewish neighborhood in Bensonhurst .

His first film was the 26-minute short film Five Feet High and Rising . He wrote the script for this film together with Eva Vives for his graduation from the Tisch School of Arts at New York University . With Five Feet High and Rising , Sollett won awards from the Sundance Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival . According to Sollett, the short film is autobiographical and based on experiences of his childhood in Brooklyn . It also served as a template for his first feature film, Summer in New York .

In 2017 he was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.
