action

Victor Vargas is a 17-year-old boy who lives with his younger brother Nino and his younger half-sister Vicki with their grandmother on the East Side of Manhattan , ( NY ) after both parents have died.

Like other boys of his age, he is connected to a group of Latinos like himself and is interested in girls. He is particularly fond of Judy, who initially does not want to know anything about Victor and only accepts him as a friend so that other boys will be scared off by Victor.

But Victor also experiences depths in his private life. So now his brother Nino also begins to be interested in sexuality and horrifies the strictly religious and conservative grandmother, who recognizes Victor as the author and would like to leave him to the care of the youth home . And the introverted and shy Vicki has also found an admirer in Carlos, the brother of Victor's crush Judy.

Judy and Victor are only slowly getting closer and in the end they have to realize that love and renunciation are stronger than prejudice and selfishness.

Background information

With partly amateur actors and handheld cameras , Sollett created the most authentic possible picture of the situation in the US ghettos and their residents.

The film music ("Original Motion Picture Soundtrack") was composed by Jan AP Kaczmarek and also contains the title "Don't Gag Me" by Fela Kuti .
