Peter Charles Southey (born January 4, 1962 in Parsons Green , † December 28, 1983 in Ham ) was an English football player .

Career

Southey came in July 1979 as an Apprentice (dt. Trainee) to Tottenham Hotspur and announced on September 8, 1979 against Brighton & Hove Albion its debut in the Football League First Division , a month before he signed a professional contract. In the following years, Southey's appearances on the professional team were limited to friendly games, otherwise he played on the reserve team. In 1981 he took part with the English junior national team at the Junior World Championships in Australia and came there to two missions when the English team finished fourth.

After he had breathing problems in the pre-season preparation phase in the summer of 1983 and was regularly last in running exercises, doctors diagnosed Southey with leukemia . He died at the age of 21 on December 28, 1983 after attempting a bone marrow transplant .
