Peter Trump (born December 3, 1950 in Frankenthal ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic champion .

He played a total of 213 times for the German national hockey team .

Career

Left winger Peter Trump played for the Frankenthal gymnastics community throughout his career and participated in all ten TG Frankenthal championships; In 1979, 1980 and 1983 he was champion in field hockey, in 1969, 1977 and from 1980 to 1984 Frankenthal won the championship in indoor hockey five times in a row. In 1984 the TG Frankenthal won the European Champion Clubs' Cup.

In 1970 Trump made his debut in the national team and was a substitute for winning the European field hockey championship. 1972 he became a regular player. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he was the youngest player in the German team to face the reigning world champion from Pakistan in the final. With a goal by Michael Krause , the team became Olympic champions.

For this he and the German national hockey team received the Silver Laurel Leaf on May 25, 1972.

In the following years Peter Trump played in every major tournament in the German team. After bronze at the field hockey world championship in 1973 , the team won the 1974 European championship in indoor hockey. At the field hockey world championship in 1975 bronze again followed. In 1976 the team became indoor European champions for the second time. At the 1976 Olympic Games , the German team finished fifth. After finishing fourth at the 1978 World Cup , the team won the title at the European Championships in Hanover in the same year. After winning the third European indoor championship title in 1980, the 1980 Olympic boycott was a major setback in the German hockey association's track record. Peter Trump then withdrew from the national team.

As a trainer, he looked after the TG Frankenthal and the HC Blau-Weiß Speyer. Peter Trump is the father of Bundesliga hockey player Andreas Trump, who also played for TG Frankenthal. Christian Trump, a nephew of Peter Trump, currently (2013) plays for the Bundesliga team of Mannheim HC. He emerged from the youth of the TG Frankenthal and was also appointed to the national team in the TG senior division.
