Peter Waterkortte (born October 27, 1900 in Münster , † February 28, 1950 ) was a German communist- oriented journalist and politician.

Waterkortte was youth secretary for the Communist Youth between 1926 and 1927 and then worked for the communist newspaper Freiheit. At the beginning of the Nazi era , he was imprisoned in the Börgermoor concentration camp . As a result of the imprisonment, he became blind. Since the National Socialists therefore considered him harmless, he was dismissed and a high treason trial was set. In 1945 he was a city councilor in Düsseldorf , a year later next to the mayor Karl Arnold and a city councilor again from 1947. Professionally he worked as a journalist again.

Waterkortte was a member of the first appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1946. He came as a successor to the elected first state parliament in 1949.
