Here Wells switched from bass to guitar without further ado and acted as lead guitarist and main songwriter for the band until he left in 1983.
After leaving Rose Tattoo, he founded the Pete Wells Band in the same year and worked on various other side projects.
On the occasion of an invitation from Guns n 'Roses , who covered the song Nice Boys by Rose Tattoo in 1986 and wanted to sign the band as a one-time opener for the occasion, Wells returned to the side of his old colleagues for this one concert.
