Peter Wolf (basketball player)
Peter Wolf (* 1951 in Vienna ) is an Austrian basketball coach and former player.
career
As a teenager, Wolf played several ball sports, including basketball, football , handball and table tennis .
He was part of the squad of the Austrian team at the European Junior Championships in 1968. He took part with the team in elimination rounds for the Summer Olympics: 1972, 1980 and 1984. In 1977 he made it through with the national team from the C to the A group, at the European Championships in Belgium in September of the same year, he remained with the selection but without a win. Wolf scored 2.7 points per encounter over the course of the tournament. He played 155 international matches between 1968 and 1985, becoming the record player for his country.
At club level, he ran from 1967 to 1974 for Union Kuenring Vienna and from 1974 to 1982 for UBSC Vienna, the serial champions of the 1970s and early 1980s, and also gained experience with the team in European Cups. Between 1982 and 1986 he was a player for BK Klosterneuburg in the Bundesliga, 1985/86 again for UBSC Vienna (as player-coach) and from 1986 to 1990 player-coach also in the top division at UBSC Wels. In the second highest league (Bundesliga B), Wolf wore the colors of Union Gmunden from 1990 to 1992. He was national champion with UBSC Vienna in 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982, and with Klosterneuburg in 1983, 1984 and 1985.
Wolf was already a coach when he was a player. His first Bundesliga position as a coach was in 1975/76 Union Hernals, while at the same time he played in the same division for UBSC Vienna. Between 1976 and 1978 he looked after the Bundesliga women from Post SV Wien, and in 1981 and 1982 Wolf acted as national coach of the male U18 team. In the women's Bundesliga he was coach of UBC Wels between 1987 and 1990 and led them to win the national championship in 1989 and 1990. In 1987, Wolf also looked after Hungary's national women's team. In the game year 1991/92, the men's team of the Gmunden Sports Union rose under Wolf as a coach in the Bundesliga . There he remained in office until 1994. He was Austrian national coach of the men's selection from 1993 to 1995. And partly at the same time he was coach of the Bundesliga women of the UBBC Herzogenburg (1994 to 1998), which won the 1996 national championship under his leadership. During the 1995/96 season he took over at Bundesliga club UBC Mattersburg in a team with Sandor Geller as coach and led the team to relegation, thus ending his tenure. In 1996/97, Wolf was also the coach of the Traiskirchen Lions in the Bundesliga . In a second term as national coach, he was again responsible for the men's selection from December 1997 to 2000.
His main job was in the field of biotechnology, later in the field of steam and condensate technology.
