Peter Wolf (born March 7, 1946 in New York City ) is an American musician . From 1967 to 1983 he was the singer of the J. Geils Band .

Career

Wolf initially wanted to be an artist, but in the 1960s he worked as a disk jockey for the WBCN radio station in Boston . There his interest in blues was aroused, whereupon his musical career began as a solo artist. He later formed a group called Hallucinations that performed with The Velvet Underground , Howlin 'Wolf , Muddy Waters , Van Morrison , John Lee Hooker and Sun Ra , among others . When he finally saw the J. Geils Band at a concert, he decided to join them.

In 1983 he left the J. Geils Band and was henceforth active as a solo artist. In 1999 he performed again with his old band for a few reunion gigs.

From 1974 to 1979 Wolf was married to the actress Faye Dunaway .
