Peter van Gestel (1961)

Peter van Gestel (born August 3, 1937 in Amsterdam ; † March 1, 2019 there ) was a Dutch writer .

Life

Peter van Gestel attended drama school and then worked as an actor for a few years. He then became a dramaturge and worked as an author and dramaturge for radio and television. Via radio plays and stories for adults he came to stories for young people, which he published in the magazine Vrij Nederland . With these stories he wrote his first book for young people, Schuilen onder je schooltas (Hiding under your satchel) in 1979 .

In 2006 Van Gestel received the Theo Thijssenprijs, which is only awarded every three years, for his entire work.

His youth novel Wintereis about the time of National Socialism has already been awarded several prizes.
