Abbot Peter von Gomaringen gives Maria the crossing tower of the monastery church, fresco from 1409 in Bebenhausen monastery, typical for the time, the donor is also shown here, in a modest miniaturization, on the painting as a donor figure.

Peter von Gomaringen from the house of the Lords of Gomaringen was 1393–1412 abbot in the Bebenhausen monastery , the house monastery of the Count Palatine of Tübingen .

Act

During his tenure, the monastery church of Bebenhausen was given the representative Gothic crossing tower , which caused disputes among the order up to the general chapter , because only wooden ridge turrets were actually allowed in Cistercian churches . Obviously, the monks of the quake houses were able to prevail, and a fresco can still be seen on the north wall of the choir arch that shows Abbot Peter presenting a model of the crossing tower to St. Mary, the monastery patroness.

Document mentions

Pope Boniface IX incorporated the church of Magstadt into the monastery of Bebenhausen at the request of the abbot, Peter von Gomaringen, and the convent of Bebenhausen and Count Eberhard III. von Württemberg , who had given the monastery the right of patronage to the parish church of Magstadt as an excuse for the losses inflicted by himself and other soldiers in the wars of the count in recent times , on the condition that such incorporation take place.
