Eberhard III. and its councils

Eberhard III. , called "der Milde", (* after 1362 probably in Stuttgart ; † May 16, 1417 in Göppingen ) was Count of Württemberg from 1392 to 1417. He was the son of Count Ulrichs von Württemberg (* after 1340; † 1388) and the Elisabeth of Bavaria (* 1329; † 1402), daughter of Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria .

Eberhard III. married Antonia Visconti from Milan in 1380 , daughter of the local Signor Bernabò Visconti . The only surviving child from this marriage was the later Count Eberhard IV.

After Antonia's death on March 26, 1405, Eberhard married Elisabeth von Nürnberg , the daughter of Burgrave Johann III. of Nuremberg (marriage speech on March 27, 1406, supplement not until 1412). The daughter Elisabeth von Württemberg († 1476), married to Count Johann IV von Werdenberg, comes from this connection . They are the parents of the Augsburg Bishop Johann II von Werdenberg († 1486).

Eberhard's reign was characterized by a peace-keeping policy of alliances with the neighboring royal houses and imperial cities . Examples are the alliance concluded on August 27, 1395 with 14 Upper Swabian cities and the Marbacher Bund of 1405. An important military success was the victory against the Schleglerbund in 1395 near Heimsheim . The most important territorial acquisition was the County of Mömpelgard , which came about through the engagement of his son, the later Count Eberhard IV. , To Henriette von Mömpelgard . Henriette was the oldest daughter of Count Heinrich von Mömpelgard who was entitled to inherit . Eberhard III. ruled the county of Mömpelgard until 1409 and then handed it over to his son Eberhard IV.
