Carl Duke of Württemberg
Carl Maria Peter Ferdinand Philipp Albrecht Joseph Michael Pius Konrad Robert Ulrich Herzog von Württemberg (born August 1, 1936 in Friedrichshafen ) is a German entrepreneur and has been the head of the House of Württemberg since 1975 . He is the second eldest son of Philip II Albrecht Duke of Württemberg and his wife Rosa . After the resignation of his older brother Ludwig on June 29, 1959 and January 19, 1960 in Altshausen , he became heir to the House of Württemberg and succeeded his father after his death in 1975 as head of the house and the family business " Hofkammer des Haus Württemberg " . He is honorary president of the Cannstatter Volksfest-Verein.
Life
Carl Herzog von Württemberg attended the classical grammar school in Riedlingen and studied law at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . After completing his studies, he joined the family business "Hofkammer des Haus Württemberg" (formerly based at Altshausen Castle , now the family's residence) and in 1975 became its boss. The company manages around 5500 hectares of forest, around 2000 hectares of meadows and fields, 50 hectares of vineyards, around 700 plots of land in Germany and abroad, forests in Canada and Austria, and company holdings. The Herzog von Württemberg winery has been located on the domain of Schloss Monrepos near Ludwigsburg since 1981 . In addition, the maintenance of 70 cultural monuments of the House of Württemberg must be ensured. Friedrichshafen Castle is the current company headquarters of the "Court Chamber of the House of Württemberg" .
In addition, Carl Herzog von Württemberg is involved in social and charitable activities, including in the German Red Cross , the Baden-Württemberg Monument Foundation, the associations for children with cancer, the Free School Foundation, the Art Foundation and the preventive youth welfare foundation. From 1985 to 2002, he was Deputy Chairman of the Monument Foundation and from 2002 to 2008 Chairman. He is honorary senator of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the University of Hohenheim and chairman of the Association of Friends of the University of Tübingen and the University Foundation. On May 31, 2002, Pope John Paul II handed him the Commander-in-Chief of the Papal Order of Knights of St. Gregory the Great , in particular because of his services to the development of the Catholic school system in the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart . On November 8, 2008 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in theology from the Philosophical-Theological University of Vallendar . He has been a Knight of Honor of the Teutonic Order since 2009 .
In the media, aristocratic circles and name abbreviations, he is often referred to as "His Royal Highness" (HRH).
