Maria Erich Wunibald Aloysius Georg Graf von Waldburg zu Zeil und Trauchburg (born November 21, 1962 in Ravensburg ) is a German entrepreneur and since the death of his father in 2015 has been head of the Zeil line of the former Princely House of Waldburg . Since then he has appeared as such under the name Erich Fürst von Waldburg zu Zeil und Trauchburg .

Erich von Waldburg-Zeil is the only son of six children of Georg Fürst von Waldburg zu Zeil and Trauchburg and Marie Gabrielle Princess of Bavaria (* 1931). He married Mathilde (* 1962), the daughter of Carl Herzog von Württemberg and Diane Duchess von Württemberg born on November 17, 1988 in Altshausen . d'Orléans ( House of Bourbon ). There are five daughters from the marriage.

The family lives at Zeil Castle in Leutkirch in the Allgäu .

Life

After school and training, Erich von Waldburg-Zeil joined the family company. The entrepreneur, who was born with the real family name of Count von Waldburg zu Zeil and Trauchburg , was known as the Hereditary Count of Waldburg zu Zeil and Trauchburg . With the death of his father on December 2, 2015, he succeeded him as head of the Zeil line of the Waldburg dynasty, which was ruled until 1918 . Since then he has called himself Prince Erich von Waldburg zu Zeil und Trauchburg .

Entrepreneurial activities

Erich von Waldburg-Zeil manages an extensive corporate conglomerate. With around 10,000 hectares of forest and agricultural land, the family is one of the largest private landowners in Germany and also has considerable forest areas in Argentina . In addition, the family is a co-partner of the media company Schwäbischer Verlag GmbH & Co. KG with the Schwäbische Zeitung and holdings in the private broadcasters Radio 7 , Radio Seefunk , three regional television stations and numerous other subsidiaries. This includes long-term entrepreneurial engagements at the media company Allgäuer Zeitungsverlag (50% share). Furthermore, the family operates the regional airfield Leutkirch-Unterzeil , the Holzhof Zeil and several casinos , the Hochgratbahn and, since 1958, a chain of rehabilitation clinics and spa centers ( Waldburg-Zeil Kliniken , with 17 facilities with approx. 3400 beds and more than 3000 employees ).

Erich von Waldburg-Zeil holds numerous mandates, such as in the association of Baden-Württemberg landowners (deputy chairman), member of the advisory board of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW) and Deutsche Bank as well as in the Universitätsbund Hohenheim eV (deputy chairman). He is a member of the supervisory board of Malteser Deutschland gGmbH , a sub-organization of the Order of Malta in Germany, and chairman of the Sonthofen im Allgäu community (74 territories with 85,344 hectares). He is a member of the Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs (BKU) .

He is particularly committed to the protection of monuments and is deputy. Chairman of the Baden-Württemberg Monument Foundation . He is also a board member of the Ottobeuren Benedictine Abbey and a member of the board of trustees of the Cultural Monument Foundation - Bad Wurzach Castle .

The family's private wealth is estimated at around 650 million euros.
