Peter Ferdinand of Austria-Tuscany
Peter Ferdinand Salvator Karl Ludwig Maria Joseph Leopold Anton Rupert Pius Pancraz of Austria-Tuscany (* May 12, 1874 in Salzburg , † November 8, 1948 in St. Gilgen ) from the House of Habsburg-Lothringen was an Archduke of Austria and general of the kuk Dual monarchy . Peter Ferdinand was pretender to the throne of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany from 1942 until his death .
Life
Peter Ferdinand was the third son of the former Grand Duke Ferdinand IV of Tuscany (1835–1908) from his marriage to Alix (1849–1935), daughter of Duke Charles III. from Parma . After his marriage, Peter Ferdinand lived in the premises of the former Crown Princess Stephanie in the Vienna Hofburg from 1900 .
After completing his military training, Peter Ferdinand was appointed Colonel in 1908 as the owner of the 66th Infantry Regiment. On May 1, 1911, he was promoted to major general and on April 23, 1914 to field marshal lieutenant. At the beginning of the First World War in August 1914 he was in command of the 25th Infantry Division, with which he fought in the kuk II Corps in Galicia and southern Poland. General Moritz von Auffenberg later stated that Peter Ferdinand prevented the encirclement of the 5th Russian Army by his disposition in the Battle of Komarów . In June 1915 Peter Ferdinand was relieved of his command and Major General Joseph Poleschensky took over the 25th Division.
On April 17, 1917, promoted to general of the infantry and put back into service, Peter Ferdinand became commandant of a corps group on the Italian front . He initially defended the high mountain section on the Ortler , in October 1917 his corps group covered the deployment of the 14th Army on the Carinthian western front for the 12th Isonzo battle . On August 15, 1918, his corps group now in Trentino was renamed the 5th Army Corps . In the last days of the war he commanded the 10th Army in Trento on October 26, 1918, on behalf of Field Marshal Krobatin .
The Archduke was considered artistically gifted and lived in Lucerne after the war. In 1935 he returned to Austria. With the death of his older brother Joseph Ferdinand (1872–1942), Peter Ferdinand was pretender to the throne of Tuscany. Peter Ferdinand died at the age of 74 in St. Gilgen and was buried in the local cemetery.

Peter Ferdinand married on November 8, 1900 in Cannes Maria Christina (1877–1947), daughter of Prince Alfons Maria of Naples-Sicily , Count of Caserta, with whom he had the following children:
