Henry II of Montfaucon

Henry II of Montfaucon (* 1360 - † September 28, 1396 in Nikopolis ) was lord of Orbe , Echallens , Oron, Palézieux and Montagny-le-Corbe .

Life

Heinrich was the son of Etienne de Montfaucon , Count of Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) and Margaret of Chalon , a daughter of John II of Chalon-Arly .

Heinrich took part in campaigns in Flanders and Valais. In 1393 he was chamberlain to Duke Philip the Bold of Burgundy. Heinrich took part in the crusade of the Hungarian King Sigismund against the Turks, where he fell in 1396 in the Battle of Nicopolis . When his father died in 1397, the house of Montfaucon went out and the county of Mömpelgard fell to the house of Württemberg through the marriage of Heinrich's daughter Henriette with Count Eberhard IV .

Heinrich married Maria von Châtillon († 1394) in 1383, a daughter of Gaucher VI. from Châtillon. They had four children:

  • Margarete († 1410) ∞ Humbert von Villersexel, Count of la Roche-en-Montagne
  • Johanna († 1445) ∞ Ludwig von Chalon (* 1390; † 1463), Prince of Orange
  • Agnes († 1439) ∞ Thibaut VIII. († 1459), Lord of Neuchâtel

After Maria's death, Heinrich married Beatrix von Fürstenberg , daughter of Count Heinrich IV. Von Fürstenberg, in 1396 .
