history

Peterhof and Wanfrieder Landstrasse in the 19th century (excerpt from a contemporary postcard)

At the site of the Peterhof there used to be a medieval castle , called "Schlösschen" .

In 1835 the Wanfrieder Landstrasse was completed from Mühlhausen via Eigenrieden to Hesse . A year later, the carter Christian Peter built the Chaussee- and Forsthaus "Peterhof", for which he was licensed in 1838 . The municipal chief forester took over the location near the Mühlhausen city forest after Peter's death and continued the inn. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Peterhof developed into a popular excursion destination and could be reached with the Mühlhausen tram and hiking trails.

In the 1990s, the Peterhof was expanded and modernized with ancillary buildings. Between 1995 and 2002 the restaurant received the "Thuringian Hospitality" award several times. In 2011, the previous operator had to give up operations for health reasons and close the inn. The property was sold and should be reopened in spring 2014 after renewed renovation. It was finally reopened in September 2014. Since December 2014, the Peterhof has again been connected to the local public transport system in the city of Mühlhausen.
