The Petersen peak is 1,215 m high and rocky mountain in the East Antarctic Coats Land . In the north-central part of the Shackleton Range, it rises 10 km southwest of the Morris Hills .
Participants of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) under the direction of the British polar explorer Vivian Fuchs mapped and named him in 1957. Hans Christian Petersen, captain of the research vessel Magga Dan , which took part in the expedition to Filchner-Ronne between 1956 and 1957 - had transported ice shelves .
