Petillius

Petillius is the name of a Roman plebeian family whose members began in the 2nd century BC. Appear in historical sources. The name Petillius can be found predominantly on inscriptions and coins, while the handwritten tradition of ancient works uses the spelling Petilius . During the time of the republic , the family provided a consul only once (176 BC) . More important representatives are:

  • Q. Petillii, two tribunes of the same name, which were founded in 187 BC. Chr. Lucius Cornelius Scipio Asiaticus accused; one of them is probably identical with the consul of 176 BC. Chr.
  • L. Petillius, alleged name of a scribe who lived in 181 BC. Chr. Supposed writings of Numa Pompilius found
