Petya Parvanova

Petya Parvanova ( Bulgarian Петя Първанова ; born July 12, 1960 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian politician . In 2013 she was the Bulgarian Minister of the Interior, making her the first woman in this position. She is currently the head of the Bulgarian State Agency for Refugees.

Life

Petya Parvanova was born in 1960. In 1991 she graduated in German studies from the University of Sofia . In 1998 she received a master’s degree from the New Bulgarian University .

From 1978 to 1981 she was employed by Balkantourist , the oldest Bulgarian tour operator . From 1982 to 1991 she worked as an interpreter at the embassy of the German Domocratic Republic in Sofia . Later she worked as a translator for various companies.

In 2001 Parvanova was appointed Deputy Director of the Prosecutor General's Office, where she had been employed since 1999. She was later appointed Director of International Cooperation in the Ministry of the Interior and elevated to the rank of Police General .

On March 12, 2013, under the government of Marin Rajkow , she became the first woman to be appointed Minister of the Interior of Bulgaria. On May 29 of the same year she was replaced by Zwetlin Jowtschew .
