The Štadión Petržalka (also known as Štadión za Starým mostom , German  stadium behind the Old Bridge ) was a football stadium in the Petržalka district of the Slovak capital, Bratislava . It was located on the eastern edge of the Sad Janka Kráľa park .

history

The origins of the stadium go back to 1900. Right from the start, it was the home of the local football club, founded in 1898, which at that time had the Hungarian name Pozsonyi Torna Egyesulet and, after a number of partly political name changes, is now called FC Petržalka 1898 and is currently playing in the Slovak fifth league after financial problems.

After the Second World War , the completely destroyed stadium was rebuilt. In the end it had a capacity of 7100 seats, of which 5600 seats. The stadium was mainly used for soccer games. An average of 4,000 spectators attended home games.

As of 2008, the stadium was unused because the club had moved to downtown Štadión Pasienky . This happened because the last owner, the Grafobal Group, was planning a conversion into a multi-purpose zone with, among other things, 220 apartments, a hotel with 200 rooms, a conference center with 600 seats and a 29-storey office building for a total of 4.5 billion Sk . However, construction cannot start yet as the site is officially designated for sports activities. In September 2012, the demolition of the dilapidated venue began.
