Petr Popelka

Petr Popelka (* 1986 in Prague ) is a Czech conductor and composer . With the 2020/2021 season he will be chief conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra Oslo (Kringkastingsorkestret of the NRK ).

Live and act

Petr Popelka received his musical training as a double bass player at the Prague Conservatory and with Božo Paradžik at the Freiburg University of Music . At the age of 19 he became a member of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and in 2009 an academic member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra . From 2010 to 2020 he played as deputy solo double bass player with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden .

Since 2016 Popelka has devoted himself more to conducting and has received impulses from Vladimir Kiradjiev, Péter Eötvös , Alan Gilbert , Jaap van Zweden and Johannes Schlaefli.

In the 2019/2020 season he is Conductor Fellow of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra . Guest conductors have so far taken him to the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava and various other Czech orchestras. Opera conductors led him a. a. to Den Norske Opera Oslo, to the Semperoper Dresden with Peter Eötvös' Der goldene Drache and to the Hungarian State Opera Budapest.

Petr Popelka is also active as a composer and in 2015 was composer in residence at the PODIUM festival Mödling, where he directed the world premiere of his commissioned work Labyrinth des Herzens . His scenes for piano quartet were premiered in the Glass Hall of the Wiener Musikverein .
