history

The Rainbow Foundation, which is closely related to the Greens , has existed in Bavaria since 1991 . However, their work has been criticized for a long time: as insufficiently publicly perceptible, without charisma in society and for their lack of training and further education offers. On May 25, 1996, the state delegates' conference (LDK) of the Bavarian Greens in Ansbach therefore decided on key points for the content and the statutes. A corresponding initiative group of the LDK consisted of Christina Hacker, Gerald Häfner , Rita Heeg, Kurt Haymann for the state board of the Bavarian Greens (later replaced by Maria Scharfenberg ), Martin Senf (managing director of the green parliamentary group) and Susanna Tausendfreund (GRIBS). In the summer and autumn of 1996, the initiative group negotiated with the Heinrich Böll Foundation about recognition as part of the federal foundation and with the responsible Bavarian state ministries (finance, culture) about financial support in the budget of the Free State of Bavaria. An agreement with the existing Rainbow Foundation did not come about, so that the initiative group initiated the establishment of an independent association with the adoption of a preliminary statute and the election of a transitional board. As part of the state delegates' conference on November 24, 1996 in Erding, the Petra Kelly Foundation was recognized as a foundation in Bavaria with effect from January 1, 1997 .

On January 19, 1997, the founding congress took place in the Old Town Hall in Munich with around 250 participants from politics, science, culture and various social initiatives. As part of the founding act, the foundation council and the general assembly were constituted. The first board of the foundation was then elected at a further general meeting on February 16, 1997 and consisted of Susanna Tausendfreund , Harald Nestler, Stefan Scholer, Heide Hering and Henriette Wägerle.

On May 25, 1997, the association was incorporated into BUNTSTIFT eV and thus part of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
