Petra Tschakert

Petra Tschakert is an Austrian scientist in the field of geography . She is Professor of Rural Development at the University of Western Australia .

Life

Tschakert grew up in Graz . She completed a master's degree at the University of Graz in 1991 and a doctoral degree from the University of Arizona in 2003 . In the meantime she worked as a postdoc at McGill University . From 2005 to 2015 she worked at Pennsylvania State University before moving to the University of Western Australia .

Act

Tschakert's main research interests include the interactions between humans and the environment, the livelihood of the rural population, the development of rural areas, environmental justice and the methods of co-determination. In her work, she dealt intensively with the consequences of climate change .

Tschakert is one of the authors of the Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC . She is also one of the authors of the IPCC's special report on global warming of 1.5 degrees (2018).
