Dumitru Petre (born November 11, 1957 in Slobozia ) is a former Romanian weightlifter .

Career

Dumitrus international career consisted of only two appearances in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and 1984 in Los Angeles . In 1980 he could not bring in a valid attempt in jerking in the middle weight up to 90 kg after 155.0 kg in the snatch and thus remained unplaced. In 1984 he was able to win silver behind his compatriot Nicu Vlad with 392.5 kg and ahead of David Mercer with 352.5 kg in a duel due to the weakened field of participants with 360.0 kg (165.0 / 195.0 kg) by the Olympic boycott of the eastern states . With the presence of the jacks from the Soviet Union and Bulgaria, above all Jurik Vardanyan , Blagoy Blagoev and Viktor Solodov , such a placement would not have been possible, which a comparison with the world championships of previous years shows. Since the 1984 Olympic Games were also the World Championships for that year, Dumitru also won World Cup silver in duels and snatches, as well as bronze in pushing.
