Petro Demchuk

Petro Ivanovich Demtschuk ( Ukrainian Петро Іванович Демчук , born June 11, 1900 in Horodenka , Galicia , Austria-Hungary ; † November 3, 1937 in Sandarmoch , Karelian ASSR , Soviet Union ) was a Ukrainian-Soviet philosopher .

Life

Demczuk studied law in Vienna. In 1924 he moved to Kharkiv . In 1927 he graduated in philosophy from the Institute for Marxism-Leninism. He then headed the Department of Dialectical and Historical Materialism at the Kharkiv Institute for Soviet Construction and Law. He was arrested during the Stalin Purge and shot during a mass execution of prisoners on the 20th anniversary of the October 1917 Revolution in Sandarmoch, Karelia .
