Petrolul Berca is a Romanian football club from Berca , Buzau County . He played 37 years in the third Romanian football league, League III , and has been a member of League IV of Buzau County since 2010 . In the seasons 1993/94 and 1999/2000 he was in the round of 16 for the Romanian Cup .

history

Petrolul Berca was founded in 1948 as Steaua Berca . A year later the name was changed to Flacăra Berca ( German  flame ) and finally in 1959 to Petrolul Berca ( German  petroleum ). The club played until 1968 in the regional league of Buzau County, before he was promoted to Divizia C for the first time . There he fought with one exception in the 1973/74 season to stay in class before he had to relegate to Divizia D in 1976 . After the direct rise, Petrolul belonged again to the third division for five years before relegating again in 1982. After relegation was still celebrated in 1983, Petrolul placed himself in the front midfield starting with the 1984/85 season, but could not intervene in the fight for promotion to Divizia B. In the 1987/88 season, the club was in danger of relegation again.

The best result in the club's history reached Petrolul in the 1990/91 season, when the team was able to reach second place in season 3 behind Petrolul Ianca Brăila . However, the gap to the season winner was eleven points. Due to a league reform, sixth place was not enough in the following year to keep the class. Again Petrolul played only one year in the fourth division before impressively returning in the 1993/94 season with a third place. Since the club had been deducted eight points in that season, he could not play for promotion to Divizia B and had to give the FC Poiana Câmpina precedence. In the same season Petrolul reached the round of 16 for the Romanian Cup by beating first division team Sportul Studențesc , but lost 5-0 to the eventual winner Gloria Bistrița .

In the Divizia C Petrolul showed fluctuating performances in the following years and always placed in the middle of the field. In the 1999/2000 season , the club again reached the round of 16 in the Romanian Cup, having previously eliminated first division club Farul Constanța . There he lost to Petrolul Ploieşti 0-2. At the beginning of the 2000s, the team again placed in the front midfield before relegating in 2006. This time it was not possible to return in the following season. In 2008, the club finally made the leap to League III after buying his place from local rivals Onix Râmnicu Sărat. At the end of the 2009/10 season, financial reasons forced Petrolul to sell his place in League III to FC Voluntari and start in League IV of Buzau County.
